Kernels and Cohomology Groups for Some Finite Covers

We extend work of G. Ahlbrandt and M. Ziegler to give a classiication of the nite covers with bre group of prime order p for the projective space over the eld with p elements, and for the Grassmannian of k-sets from a disintegrated set (for k 2 N). AMS classiication: 03C35 and 20B27. This paper is a contribution to the study of the ne detail of the class of (countable) totally categorical struc...

A Proof of the Barsotti-Chevalley Theorem on Algebraic Groups

A fundamental theorem of Barsotti and Chevalley states that every smooth connected algebraic group over a perfect field is an extension of an abelian variety by a smooth affine algebraic group. In 1956 Rosenlicht gave a short proof of the theorem. We explain his proof in the language of modern algebraic geometry.

Non-zero Ext for Chevalley Groups (via Algebraic Groups)

Take G to be a split, simply-connected semisimple algebraic group (for example, SL(w, K) or Sp(2m, K)) over an algebraic closure K of the field of p elements, where p is prime. Denote by G(n) the finite subgroup consisting of elements of G defined over the field of p elements. The simple (rational) G-modules L(X) are parametrized by the set X of dominant weights, a subset of the character group...
